Privacy Policy

1. General

We respect your privacy, so we have written this Privacy Policy in order to explain how we collect, use, and process your personal data. This document applies to the StudyChineseOnline mobile application ("Application").

2. Data We Collect

To register for a StudyChineseOnline account, you may provide us with your first name, last name, and email address. You may also register for a StudyChineseOnline account using certain social logins, such as Google. If you register for StudyChineseOnline using a social login, StudyChineseOnline may receive information about you from your social login provider, including your first name, last name, and email address.

You can manage your account from the "My Account" screen of the Application. This screen will be populated by the information you submit, such as your first name, last name, email address, and profile picture.

This data (first name, last name, email address, profile picture) is exposed to your teachers only and used for identifying your account when your teacher assigns homework to you. The teacher gets access to your data after you send them the enrollment link (you may get it from the "My Teachers" screen of the Application). Your StudyChineseOnline profile is not public, and no other Application user except for your teachers is able to see your first name, last name, email address, or profile picture.

We also collect information about your learning progress, such as exercise completion and your scores. This information is shared with your teachers in order to help them track your progress.

3. How We Process Your Information

We may process and share your personal information in the following ways:

a. Providing and improving the Application

We will process your personal information to provide and improve the Application. For example, we will use the information you provide to maintain learning progress, display your account information to your teachers, detect and fix bugs, perform research, and provide customer service to you.

b. Communicating with you

We will use the email address you provide to send you essential messages to support the operation of the Application.

c. Complying with the law and preventing harmful activities

We may process and share personal information if necessary to comply with legal requests, such as subpoenas or court orders. We may share personal information when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, to assist law enforcement, or to prevent imminent harm. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents, or government agencies.

4. Account Removal

You are free to delete your account at any moment. After your account is deleted, we remove your first name, last name, email address, and profile picture as well as all the links with your teachers. However, your account data may be kept in database backups for at least 30 days from the moment of account removal. We may also keep all the information concerning your learning progress, such as exercise completion and scores, in depersonalized form.

5. Privacy Policy Updates

We may update our Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the Application. If we do this, we will post a notice that we have made changes to this Privacy Policy on the Application "Home" screen.
