1. General

We respect your privacy, so we have written this Privacy Policy in order to explain how we collect, use, and process your personal data. This document applies to the StudyChineseOnline website ("Site").

2. Data We Collect

a. Account Registration

To register for a StudyChineseOnline account, you may provide us with your first name, last name, and email address. You may also register for a StudyChineseOnline account using certain social logins, such as Google. If you register for StudyChineseOnline using a social login, StudyChineseOnline may receive information about you from your social login provider, including your first name, last name, and email address.

You can manage your account from the "Account" page of the Site. This page will be populated by the information you submit, such as your first name, last name, email address, and profile picture.

Your first name, last name, and profile picture are exposed to your students only and used to identify you as a teacher. Your StudyChineseOnline profile is not public, and no other StudyChineseOnline user (except for your students) is able to see your first name, last name, or profile picture.

Your email address is used as a unique identifier in the database and is not shown to any other StudyChineseOnline user.

b. User-Generated Content

You may be able to submit teaching materials such as word lists and exercises. The materials created by you are not public and become visible to your students only after assigning homework to them, containing these materials. Please notice that after removing a student from the list of your students all the assigned materials (such as exercises or word lists) remain visible to the student.

You can delete any of the materials you created at any time.

3. How We Process Your Information

We may process and share your personal information in the following ways:

a. Providing and improving the Site

We will process your personal information to provide and improve the Site. For example, we will use the information you provide to maintain your Profile and content-creating process, display your Profile to your students, detect and fix bugs, perform research, and provide customer service to you.

b. Communicating with you

We will use the email address you provide to send you essential messages to support the operation of the Site.

c. Complying with the law and preventing harmful activities

We may process and share personal information if necessary to comply with legal requests, such as subpoenas or court orders. We may share personal information when we believe it is necessary to comply with the law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, to assist law enforcement, or to prevent imminent harm. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents, or government agencies.

4. Account Removal

You are free to delete your account at any moment. After your account is deleted, we remove your first name, last name, email address, and profile picture as well as all the links with your students. However, your account data may be kept in database backups for at least 30 days from the moment of account removal. Please notice that we won't delete any materials created by you (e.g. word lists, exercises) and they will stay accessible for your students after the account removal. If you want to delete all the created content please do it manually beforehand.

5. Privacy Policy Updates

We may update our Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the Site. If we do this, we will display a notification that we have made changes to this Privacy Policy on the Site home page.
